The Szymon Landau Postdoctoral Research Fellowship

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

The Taube Department of Jewish Studies is pleased to announce the Szymon Landau Postdoctoral Fellowship established for the express purpose of funding a research project entitled “The Life and Work of Szymon Landau in Light of the Shifting Social and Cultural Realities of Polish Jews.”

Deadline for Applications: July 31, 2025

The duration of the Fellowship is twelve months from 1 October 2025 to 30 September 2026, during which the researcher will receive a stipend of 95,000 PLN.

The Fellow will work independently on their research. Four week-long trips to the Taube Department in Wrocław during the Fellowship period are expected. The Taube Department will provide workspace and inclusion into the academic community as well as free housing in Wrocław for the duration of the Fellow’s visits. The Fellow will be provided with a University of Wrocław email address and affiliation for the duration of the Fellowship.

The Fellow will give at least one open lecture at the Department which shall be recorded as a video with audio. The Fellow will take part in and, if possible, present their findings during the Department’s seminars. The Fellow will record an episode for the Department’s podcast Jews and Other Poles on the topic of their findings.

The researcher will be required to submit a detailed final report in English and Polish on their research outcomes no later than October 31, 2026.

This Fellowship does not constitute employment at the University of Wrocław. The Fellowship does not provide health insurance, and the Fellow is required to present proof of valid health insurance coverage for the period of the Fellowship.

WHO CAN APPLY

Applicants are required to:

– hold a PhD in humanities or social sciences or are in the final stages of writing (the PhD          must be defended by 1 October 2025)
– have published at least one academic publication
– submit a short research proposal
– have a communicative knowledge of English

Scholars who know at least one Jewish language and possess a documented interest in areas relevant to the proposed topic will receive preference.

HOW TO APPLY

The application must submit:

– copy of a PhD diploma or proof of PhD defense date
– copy of an academic publication
– a letter of recommendation
– a motivation letter with a brief description of the project proposal (up to 2,500 characters).
