The Taube Department of Jewish Studies is a partner with POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews in this international conference.
This autumn POLIN Museum is celebrating the fifth anniversary of the grand opening of the core exhibition entitled 1000 Years of the History of Jews in Poland. On this occasion, we would like to invite people engaged in education to participate in a conference entitled Polish-Jewish Heritage of the Republic of Poland. Challenges of Memory and Education.

During the conference, we will debate on the role of memory on Poland’s multicultural past in education, and on how to teach about the rich culture of Polish Jews. We will reflect on the challenges faced by people working with the youth and with local communities on the preservation of our common Polish-Jewish heritage. Listening to lectures and taking part in workshops will offer the conference participants an opportunity to acquaint themselves well with various aspects of the culture of Jews residing in Poland. We will talk about Yiddish literature and art, Jewish school system and the stories of Jewish women. We will also learn how to decipher the traces of Jewish communities by visiting Jewish cemeteries. We will focus on the methods of teaching multiculturalism and diversity without stereotyping. We will debate on how to talk about Polish-Jewish history without mythologizing or sugar-coating the past.
Distinguished scholars and world-renowned experts in the field of Jewish studies will speak at the conference, which will be opened by Professor Antony Polonsky, Deputy Chairman of the Institute for Polish-Jewish Studies in Oxford and the American Association for Polish-Jewish Studies.
Prof. Marcin Wodziński, head of the Taube Department of Jewish Studies at the University of Wrocław, will speak about studying Jewish culture on the first day of the conference.
Prof. Monika Adamczyk-Garbowska, literary scholar from the Faculty of Applied Linguistics at UMCS will present the most important names and themes of Yiddish literature, focusing on works produced in Poland.

The organizers do not reimburse the cost of travel and accommodation during the conference.
