– a scholar of literature and researcher of modern Sephardic literature. She has a degree in Spanish Studies from the University of Wrocław. Her doctoral dissertation was written on Poetry and Reality. The poetics of Jorge Guilléna and Czeslaw Milosz under the supervision of Prof. Piotr Sawicki. Until 2016 she worked as adjunct Professor at the Iberics Workshop at the Institute of Romance Philology, University of Wrocław, and now at the Tad Taube Department of Jewish Studies at the University of Wrocław.
Her academic interests initially included contemporary Polish and Spanish comparative literature (e.g. poetry by Czesław Miłosz and Jorge Guilléna) and her teaching interests also included Spanish art and music. In recent years her main area of interest has been Sephardic culture, particularly contemporary poetry written in the Judeo-Spanish language. She developed her knowledge of Spanish and Sephardic literature at the Blaise Pascal University in Clermont-Ferrand (Socrates-Erasmus program), at the University of Valladolid (thanks to a scholarship from the Ministerial de Asuntos Exteriores of Spain), the Complutense University of Madrid and the CSIC in Madrid (scholarship of the Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores y Cooperación Spain), as well as the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and Bar-Ilan University in Ramat Gan (Polish ministerial grant).
August-Zarębska was awarded a scholarship from the START Foundation for Polish Sciences in 2006-2007, and a scholarship from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education in 2011-2014. She also received a KBN grant (2004-2005) and a grant from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (for own research, 2010-2013) as well as a scholarship from the Bogliasco Foundation in 2016.
