– is Assistant Professor in the Taube Department of Jewish Studies. His work concerns Hasidism and Jewish orthodoxy, with a focus on the Chabad movement. Following his doctoral training at University College London, he served as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Wrocław and the Anne Tanenbaum Centre for Jewish Studies, University of Toronto. He held grants and fellowships of the YIVO Institute, the Posen Foundation and the Memorial Foundation for Jewish Culture. In addition to his research on Hasidism, Wojciech has been involved in Yiddish culture. He taught at Ot Azoy! Festival in London and at the Center for Urban History of East Central Europe in Lviv. He was also a member of the team working on the English translation of the Yiddish documents from the Ringelblum Archive. He has been a sporadic contributor to
Afn shvel on issues related to Haredi Yiddish culture. His first book,
Eternity Now: Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liady and Temporality (State University of New York Press 2019) explores the nexus of theology and praxis in the teachings of the founder of the Chabad Hasidic movement. His second book, and annotated translation of Natan Sternhartz’s
Yeme moharnat is scheduled for publication in 2020. His current project, “Mysticism and Modernity”, founded by the National Science Centre in Poland, examines cultural and social history of the Chabad movement in interwar Poland.
